Looking into the window of the studio, Audrey turned the silver knob to the studio. She reached on the wall, turning on the light. It flickered slowly before it actually turned on. She would have to remind someone to get that fixed soon. Audrey breathed in slowly as she threw her faded green messenger bag towards the corner.
She glanced at herself in the mirror. Her appearance was slouchy. Over sized grey sweat pants, a black tank fitted tank-top and black Nike Jordan’s. Usually she didn’t dress like this even to a single practice, but today she was feeling like crap. Audrey had just received a phone call from her parents. Usually those didn’t wind up to great. The conversations typically fell along the lines of her parents asking if she was still dancing, then they ended up insulting her someway, winding up with them receiving the dial-tone.
Her parents just didn’t understand her. They didn’t think that dancing would make any money. They would prefer her to study something like law or medicine. To her that was just plain boring. Dancing allowed her to express herself and that’s what she had told her mother and father many times, and it just didn’t stick in their minds. They were right though, she would probably never earn a living unless she became a professional background dancer, or performing on Broadway. Audrey wasn’t just going to give up like that though. She was going to try her hardest to make her dreams come true.
A faint smile appeared on her briefly saddened face. She threw those thoughts from her head; she had a show to prepare for. She sat down on the worn wooden floor and began to stretch. This was her favorite part to ready herself for a practice, it gave her time to calm down and focus.
“5…6…5, 6, 7, 8”
Audrey had gotten up beginning to perform different dancing techniques seeing which one would best fit her audition for the winter show. To any passerby it looked liked if she was actually performing for her life but to her she was just releasing any stress that had been caused by her parents.
